An awesome part of being a food blogger is becoming more aware of brands that I didn’t previously know about. When Dallas based On The Rocks Cocktails Company reached out to me to try out their pre-mixed cocktails, I was definitely excited. As you all know, I’m a self proclaimed cocktail queen, who loves mixing and trying spirited beverages.
Please note that I only post about the brands I believe in and honestly love. In fact, On The Rocks didn’t even ask me to dedicate a blog post like this to them. But after sampling all 6 of their drinks, I wanted to spread the word beyond my social media accounts. Read on to find out why these cocktails stood out to me.
Note that I was given these products for free to sample and review.
On The Rocks Cocktails
On The Rocks Cocktails has a simple yet powerful slogan, “Bringing the bar to you”. And do they ever! They offer six different craft style cocktails that were created by mixologists and made with natural ingredients and high end spirits. The offerings include: The Aviation, The Mai Tai, The Old Fashioned, The Cosmopolitan, The Margarita, and Pineapple Jalepeno Margarita.
Each drink is a classic cocktail that is natural, preservative free, and sweetened only with cane sugar. These cocktails are sophisticated, clean, and alcohol forward with subtle flavor enhancements. The best part about these drinks are how natural and fresh they taste. They aren’t too sweet or saturated. On The Rocks Cocktails are for the foodies and the purists who just want a high end drink with ease in the comfort of their own home.
What I love about this concept is that you get ready made and award winning cocktails all mixed up and ready to drink chilled or on the rocks.
While I am obsessed with making cocktails myself, I don’t always have the time or desire to create the perfect recipes and purchase all of the ingredients to then prepare a variety of cocktails. This is especially true when I am entertaining. In fact, for my upcoming Oscars Party, I became a customer of On The Rocks and purchased big bottles of these drinks I sampled to serve to everyone. This is perfect for crowds where everyone wants something different to drink!
Also, these drinks are a gorgeous rainbow of colors that just look ritzy!
On The Rocks Cocktails was kind enough to send me a bottle of each of these cocktails. I had a blast sampling and sipping these drinks! And now I can give you some insight into each one!
I am starting with The Aviation since this one really caught Grant’s attention and was deemed his favorite of the lot. Yes, that lucky man was definitely beyond thrilled that I’m a food blogger when he saw what I sampling!
The Aviation cocktail dates back to the prohibition era. Hugo Ensslin, a German bartender, published Recipes for Mixed Drinksin 1917. This was was right before the prohibition. His Aviation Cocktail was one of the most popular recipes.
A typical aviation cocktails uses creme de viollette, which lends a floral note and a blue or purple hue to the drink. The Aviation by On The Rocks Cocktails is a classy blend of Larios London Dry Gin and the subtle yet elegant flavors of dry cherry, lemon, and violet. This drink looks as elevated and subdued as it tastes.
The Old Fashioned
Ah, the iconic old fashioned, otherwise known as the one drink that never lets you down. Sultry sipping, classy vibes, the old fashioned is as trusted and classic as a cocktail gets.
Old Fashioned drinks date back to the 1800’s when they were said to have been served at a Louisville, Kentucky gentleman’s club. This drink even spiked in popularity when it was the favorite of famous character, Don Draper of Mad Men.
On The Rocks Cocktails crafts The Old Fashioned with Knob Creek Bourbon Whiskey along with the additions of bitters, cane sugar, orange, cherry, and lemon zest.
The Mai Tai
The Mai Tai is Polynesian in flavor and intention, but was created in the USA by a Tiki Restauranteur named Don The Beachcomber. What a tropical and fun history!
On The Rocks Cocktails crafted their Mai Tai with a blend of Cruzan rums, and flavors of orange, pineapple, orgeat, and coconut. Their elevated Mai Tai is so much more than a blend of juices shaken up with rum! This drink is subtly sweet with all the tropical flavors infused within the rum blend.
Made famous by Sex and The City’s Carrie Bradshaw, The Cosmo is modern, bold, and sexy. This was and still may be THE drink of most girls nights! The history of the Cosmo is disputed, but it sounds like it was created in New York in the 1900’s. The classic drink is made up of cranberry juice and a blend of Cointreau, vodka, and lime juice. It’s a simple and sweet drink. However, now mixoloigists are finding ways to reinvent this usually ultra sweet drink.
On The Rocks Cocktails put a modern and purist twist on the traditional cosmopolitan by crafting their Cosmopolitan with Effen Vodka and flavors of cranberry, triple sec, lemon zest, and lime.
The fact that I wrote this on National Margarita Day is awesome! Cheers to Tequila and the party that brews inside of us at the mere thought of a margarita!
The Margarita is another drink whose origin is disputed. A fun fact is that it may have been named after a Dallas socialite named Margaret Sames.
On The Rocks Cocktails crafts their balanced Margarita with Hornitas Tequila, along with all that lime and tartness you are lusting for while reading this! What stood out to me is how most pre-made mixed Margaritas that you find are super sweet and very artificial. Not the case with On The Rocks. This is a crisp cocktail that gives you only flavor and refreshment.
The Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita
A hint of heat, zest, fruitiness, and a whole lot of Tequila goodness, I found THE ONE for me! On The Rocks Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita gave me elements of what my favorite drinks are made up of: spice, tartness, with a whisper of sweetness and citrus.
On The Rocks blends the flavors of pineapple, triple sec, and a hefty dose of Tres Generaciones Tequila that got me feeling spicy!
